Anonymous visitors (everyone by default)

When you use SeeStory without an account, we collect only anonymous usage signals:

• A random session ID — generated fresh for each page load, never stored on your device
• Which buttons you clicked (play, share, demo chosen, game started)
• How long your session lasted and your screen size (width × height only)
• Engine stats for each story: how many tokens resolved, how many fell back to text — never the text itself

Unresolved words are counted privately. A word only appears in our internal gap report once five different sessions have encountered it — this prevents any single user's input from being identifiable.

What we never collect from anonymous users

• Your text — what you type is never sent to or stored by our servers
• Your IP address — not logged, not stored
• Cookies — none set for anonymous sessions
• Third-party scripts — no analytics pixels, no ads, no social trackers
• Device fingerprinting — we collect only viewport dimensions, nothing else

Beta trainers (opt-in only)

Beta trainers are people who choose to help us improve SeeStory by sharing their stories and feedback. If you sign up as a beta trainer:

• You provide your email address so we can contact you about the beta program
• You confirm you are 13 or older
• You consent to us storing the text you submit along with your story results, to improve the engine
• You can flag individual emoji choices using the ? button or ⚑ Something off? link — these reports are stored with your anonymous account ID
• Validated reports earn you recognition points (no monetary value, no cash-out)

Beta participation is entirely voluntary. Your email is stored hashed (one-way encrypted). We do not sell it or share it with third parties.

Children under 13

SeeStory does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Beta trainer signup requires a confirmed age of 13+. Anonymous usage collects no personal data at all.

Data retention

Anonymous event logs are retained for up to 12 months, then deleted. Beta trainer accounts and their submitted stories may be retained for the duration of the beta program. You can request deletion by contacting us.

Your rights

You may request deletion of any data associated with your beta account at any time. Because anonymous sessions carry no identifier, anonymous data cannot be individually deleted.

Changes to this policy

We will post updates here with a revised date. Significant changes affecting beta trainers will be communicated by email.
